Wednesday Cub Camp April 2025

Date: 9th Apr 2025 Author: Adam Suchowij

The Wednesday Cubs had a wonderful camp from 4th – 6th April. Not only did we have sunny warm weather during the days but beautiful clear nights that were perfect for looking at the stars !

Friday evening we arrived at Hallowtree and got to explore home for the weekend. We played wide games, had some hotdogs for supper and went for a night time walk around Hallowtree before getting some sleep ready for the full day of activities ahead.

Saturday we were up bright and early had our english breakfast & cereal.
After we tidied up it was time for the fun to begin !

We headed up to the abseiling tower, got kitted up with harness and helmets then the wobbly knees started to set in. The thing with abseiling is you have to climb the stairs to get to the top and boy were there alot of stairs. From the top of the 40ft tower you get a great view of the entire camp site, Orwell bridge and can even see cranes at Felixstowe docks.

We also had a scavenger hunt to complete. Something smaller than my thumb? A stick longer than my arm and something that starts with “M” to name but a few.

For lunch we made our own Calzone wraps and cooked them on an alter fire.
Tomato base, chicken, peppers, onion, mushrooms and cheese. Yum !

After lunch we had a go at a more sedate blind trial where we were blindfolded and had to follow a trail of sizel through the woods. And then Crate Stacking !

Once again helmets and harness were donned and in teams we had to build a tower of milk crates as tall as possible all while standing atop of it. Balance, communication and nerves of steel were needed. When the tower gets above head height it starts to sway and wobble with every movement until TIMBER ! the tower collapses and you are left hanging around on the end of a rope asking if someone could be so kind as to lower you back down to the ground.

Saturday night we gathered around the campfire circle after we had played our wide game. We sang some campfire songs and performed some campfire skits. A Polish song about cucumbers meant it must be time for supper, soup & a roll.

Ogórek, ogórek, ogórek,
Zielony ma garniturek,
I czapkę i sandały

The day had been sunny and warm but now darkness was here. The skies were clear and full of stars. Through Akela & Baloo’s telescope we got to see the moon as never before. The detail of the craters were breathtaking.

It had been a very busy and exciting day so time for bed.

Sunday we made our own American pancakes with banana and syrup. We had a go at orienteering taking us around the site, practised following compass bearings and made a small pioneering project.

After a plowman’s lunch it was time to packdown the camp site, take part in Cubs Own where we reflected on the challenges we overcame on camp and how lucky we are to be able to able to camp out and have the experiences so many can’t.

A litter sweep to make sure the site was how we found it and is ready for the next lucky campers and then all aboard the buses to head home.

I would like to thank all the Cubs for making the camp such fun, all the mums and dads that helped unpack when we arrived back to the hut on Sunday and all the leaders and helpers that camped with us. Without your support and assistance the camp could not have gone ahead.

I have already been asked by a few people when the next camp will be. I am glad you all had a good time and can’t wait for another adventure but please, I still haven’t washed all my clothes from this camp yet !
